The day started out bright and cheery, but I guess not cheery enough. As we crossed a street on our walk down to the tube station, a man called out his window, "Why dontcha smile, eh? It's a beautiful day!" Smiles quickly formed on our faces, then his reply, "Aw, yes, now that's better!" And so we continued on our way with a little lighter spirits.
For our free day, me and two friends went to York, as suggested by my brother-in-law as well as my professors. After walking a few blocks into the city from the train station, we could see why it is such a fabulous place.
It was a quaint little town with great shopping and parks. A historic cathedral sits in the center of the town. Down the street in separate directions are the York Museum, a castle museum, and an art gallery. After following the street signs that led to the castle museum, we were greeted with a little tower on a hill in the middle of a parking lot - not what we were expecting, but I guess still pretty cool; it's nothing that you could ever find back home in Utah, anyways! I believe it was built sometime in the 1200s.

Oh! And I can't forget! At the train station we were at, Kings Cross station, is where the Harry Potter platform of 9 and 3/4 is found. Sadly, that part of the station is undergoing construction right now, so we weren't able to see the real thing. But they made a mimic of it just outside of the station- just for us!
