Day 13

Chatsworth
Probably being one of the most exciting yet disappointing destinations yet, today we took the train to the Chatsworth estate, where yet another duke resides. This is the home where Mr. Darcy lives in the newer Pride and Prejudice- which is why it was so exciting! But sadly the most important part of the building was under scaffolding - the part where Elizabeth and Darcy sit in the closing scene. But thankfully the experience was still pretty amazing. We were at least able to see Mr. Darcy's  sculpture/bust that is shown in the movie, which was exciting.

The estate is surrounded by acres and acres of beautiful land and gardens. It is also equipped with a naturally spouting fountain - due to gravity from the hillside from where it comes.
LOTS and lots of pretty flowers
A view of the Rock Gardens.

Sad faces because it's covered!!

The fountain - sorry, not the best pic
Sending a kiss to Darcy! He was in the gift shop of all places..

Huge bees were everywhere givin the flowers some love!

Some things inside the estate that I liked:
Beautiful marble flooring

A pretty neat mirror

I thought it was interesting they put modern art in a more historic home. I liked it though! It was kind of relieving to the eye after seeing all the detail and ornamentation of the older designs.

More beautiful marble- this time on a table-top.

  1. Thanks for taking the time to post the photos and brief descriptions. We have enjoyed them very much! It has made our day to experience your trip with you. Janet was hoping you bought a miniature bust of Mr Darcy-"lol".

  2. Oh thanks! I'm so glad you guys like it. That makes me feel a little better about this whole blog thing. That's too funny about the Mr. Darcy bust- we were hoping the same thing! But they didn't have it. Ridiculous, right?
